     Information on the National Space Agency and Space Program of Bulgaria 

Bulgarian Aerospace Agency SRI

The Bulgarian Aerospace Agency also known as the Space Research Institute (SRI) is the national space agency of Bulgaria. The Bulgarian Aerospace Agency was founded in 1969 and is located at Sofia, Bulgaria.

 

The SRI performs activities which are related to outer space research including research on astrophysics. The Bulgarian Aerospace Agency is also involved in remote sensing and image processing applications for satellites, control systems as well as automated and navigation capable spacecrafts. The SRI has considerable experience in field of space sciences and space research as many scientist from SRI where involved in many Soviet Union space programs. The SRI now actively sought co-operation with other space agencies of the world. The Bulgarian Aerospace Agency also has the distinction of sending a man into outer space becoming the sixth nation in the world to do so in 1979. The SRI works on component development and has considerable know-how and understanding of different space related systems.
